This past year the NJ Libertarian Party has utilized the services of a student Press Secretary. While this job does not pay, Rutgers recognizes this internship for college credits. Many other opportunities exist for freedom minded students. Institute for Humane StudiesThe Institute for Humane Studies (IHS) is a unique organization that assists undergraduate and graduate students worldwide with an interest in individual liberty. They currently have three internship programs and two scholarships.
Please vist the IHS website or email Keri Anderson for more information. CATO InstituteCato interns assist policy staff as researchers; work with the conference department to organize policy conferences, debates, and forums; attend seminars and conferences; and assist Cato's professional staff by copying and filing newspaper articles, distributing materials to congressional offices, and preparing mailings. In addition to their research and other duties, interns take part in regular seminars on politics, economics, law, and philosophy, as well as a series of lectures and films on libertarian themes Cato internships are for undergraduates, regardless of major, recent graduates, graduate students, or law students who have a strong commitment to individual liberty, private property, free markets, limited government, and the philosophy of classical, or market, liberalism. See the CATO website on internships for more information. Ludwig von Mises InstituteThe Ludwig von Mises Institute offers a variety of summer fellowships and scholarships to their conferences for those interested in researching Austrian economics and libertarian political theory. See their website on fellowships and scholarships for more information. The Institute for JusticeFounded in 1991, the Institute for Justice is what a civil liberties law firm should be. As our nation's only libertarian public interest law firm, we engage in cutting-edge litigation and advocacy both in the courts of law and in the court of public opinion on behalf of individuals whose most basic rights are denied by the government--like the right to earn an honest living, private property rights, and the right to free speech, especially in the areas of commercial and Internet speech. As Wired magazine said, the Institute for Justice “helps individuals subject to wacky government regulations.”
The Institute for Justice has a number of programs for those interested in gaining experience fighting for liberty on the front lines. See Programs for Law Students and Undergraduates web page.
